Jammu, January 25
At a time when Jammu was frustrated by the continued indifference of the Jammu and Kashmir government of its plight, the Centre has come to the rescue to the people of Jammu by addressing some of the core issues in a balanced manner with that of the Valley as well.
It has lit up new hope among the affected population in the state, particularly , Jammu region.
Centre has taken due note of the problems of the migrants in Jammu, who have come to the place from different parts of the state since 1947, be they from now Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir or West Pakistan , Kashmiri Pandits or the victims of militancy from hills of Jammu .
These migrants have been living a second-class citizen lives as their right to live with dignity were mauled by Pakistani raiders in 1947 to Pakistani terrorists from 1990 onwards . Before that the victims of wars , displaced by the conditions of not their making, have been running from pillar to post.
The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has come to their rescue . His advisory to the state government that it should constitute an advisory board for all these types of migrants reflects the concern the Modi government has this large chunk of population living in Jammu region . Their plight needs to be addressed in a realistic manner.
“ We do hope that the Centre would better our lot,” Labbu Ram, an aged refugee from Mirpur, now in PoJK , hopes. “ There are issues of our rehabilitation and settlement that have not been addressed for decades and the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to do something in reality for us , “ he said. His reference was the relief announced by the Prime Minister in his Rs. 80,000 crore package for the state in November 2015.
The migrant camps at Jagti and Talwara had been crying for attention for long, but the state government had been ignoring their plight. This is because of the fact, as the residents of these places see for themselves , is the “ indifferent to hostile attitude of the state governments , and the current PDP-led coalition government being no exception ,” and secondly , the deceptive picture that the state government as been presenting about the migrants in Jammu . The state government has been paying lip service to the welfare of the migrants, but in reality has done nothing for them.
