APHC (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while presiding over a function commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, said that the “resistance has to be kept alive at all costs”.

He was addressing a mammoth congregation on occasion of Friday following Eid-e-Milad un Nabi he said,  “The strength and sentiment shown by the people, in east and west, in north and south of Kashmir valley, is not a small thing. It is obligatory on us that we safeguard the sacrifices and protect movement.  We have to imbibe movement in our life” he said.

Mirwaiz also referred to Basit Rasool, an engineering student turned militant who was killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir earlier this week. “How many of our youth who sacrificed their lives for this movement. So it is a responsibility on us,” he said.

Mirwaiz said the leadership remains “committed” and urged the people to follow the separatist leadership. “Despite curbs on us, the resistance leadership is attempting to plan a long-term transition. Not only weekly calendars, but our resistance and programme should be throughout the year,” he said.

Clashes between civilians and security forces started after the congregation . Police had to fires tear gas shells towards stone throwing youth during clashes with protesters who were protesting against the killings and arrests in Kashmir since killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen Commander Burhan Wani on 08th July.
