Doda, March 30: Traffic woes in Doda town are going to end soon as work has begun on the Rs 27-crore project of multi-story parking complex at Bus stand which is expected to be completed within two years.

This project will provide parking facility to more than 500 vehicles in centre of the town as Doda lacks proper parking facility.

The G-plus-4 multi parking facility was a long pending demand of the people of the Doda and district administration, under DC Doda Vishesh Paul Mahajan, has made it possible to get the work started on this. The work as been allotted to a Punjab based construction agency Shristi Constructions and today the formal work began.

Shristi constructions has bagged this project in Rs 22 crores as it was the lowest bidder of this project.

Talking to JK News Today, executive engineer public works department, Manoj Gupta said that the time period for completion of this project is two years. “But we will try to complete it within one and a half years so that people don’t suffer much,” he said.

The ground floor of this multi-storey parking facility will host 25 to 30 buses at a time and other four stories can absorb 400 to 500 light and other vehicles which will ease the traffic congestion in Doda town.

Doda town is situated on a hill beneath which flows the mighty river Chenab. Due to shortage of space and non availability of the parking facilities in Doda town, people park their vehicles on the road as they don’t have any other option, which creates traffic mess in the town leading to nightmare of traffic jams as well.

Despite the fact that few private parking facilities have come up in and around Doda town but it hasn’t addressed the issue fully. The new multi-storey parking project is considered a ray a hope in this regard and people feel it will serve the purpose.

As the work has begun, district administration has issued guidelines for commercial vehicles coming in Doda town from different routes and has given a route plan for them to park their vehicles outside the town so that traffic plies smoothly. Due to this people will suffer but administration has requested people to help in this regard.
