Srinagar, August 26: Five days after the National Conference- Congress alliance was announced for the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir , the pre-poll political partners came out with a seat sharing formula in which National Conference will play big brother’s role with 51 seats in its kitty and Congress agreeing to contest 32 only. Five other seats would be open to friendly contest , and one each for CPI-M and Panthers Party .
The alliance was announced on all the 90 seats on Thursday last – August 22 – after Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and PCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra met Abdullah’s at the latter’s Gupkar road residence . But it took five days for the alliance parties’s leaders to work out the seat sharing arrangement for a majority of seats , still the five seats remained on the frame of contention .
Now , it is not known whether the alliance partners will stick to their commitment top contest only the allotted number of seats and that there would be no rival candidates from either side apart from the five seats which have been reserved for friendly contest .
The alliance leaders , particularly National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said that the main objective of the partnership is to fight the divisive forces that are trying to disturb harmony across the country , especially in Jammu and Kashmir, an unmistakable reference to BJP. NC and Congress have been charging BJP with sowing seeds of divisions in society.
