Jammu, 24 July 2026: Due to continuous heavy rainfall since 18.07.2026, a landslide occurred during the late hours of 23.07.2026 at Ladha near Samroli on the Udhampur–Chenani section of NH-44, leading to the temporary closure of the highway.
NHAI immediately mobilised men and machinery to the affected location. Clearance operations were carried out on priority, and traffic was partially restored within about two hours by making the road passable.
However, fresh and intense rainfall during the morning of 24.07.2026 triggered another landslide at the same location, resulting in a fresh blockage of the highway. Owing to continuous rainfall, restoration work could not be carried out safely. After the rain subsided around 2:00 PM, NHAI teams resumed clearance operations without delay.
With the deployment of adequate manpower and equipment, the debris was cleared and the highway was fully restored for two-way traffic within about four hours. All stranded vehicles have since been allowed to move, and traffic is flowing normally.
NHAI remains on alert across vulnerable stretches of NH-44, with teams and machinery positioned to respond promptly to any weather-related incidents. Travellers are advised to follow lane discipline, drive cautiously, and adhere to traffic advisories issued by the authorities.
