Srinagar, April 9 Union Minister for Road Transport and highways arrived in Srinagar Sunday evening at the start of his three- day visit of Jammu and Kashmir.
He was received at Srinagar airport by several leaders , led by Sunil Sharma, General Secretary of the UT unit and incharge of the party affairs in the Valley.
During his three day visit, Gadkari , known as connectivity and development man in the Modi Government for his devotion to construction of highways and tunnels, reducing distances and increasing connectivity, he will visit and inspect under construction Zojilla Tunnel that will offer round the year connectivity to Ladakh region with the rest of the country. He will also inspect Z-Morh tunnel at Sonmarg , which is near completion . It is dream come true for locals and tourists as also Amarnath pilgrims.
After a night halt at Srinagar on Monday, the minister will have a dinner meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and discuss future plans of offering all- weather connectivity all across the UT.
Sinha, who has transformed Jammu and Kashmir’s landscape with development with human touch governance , has dedicated himself to the overall development of the UT. He is keen on doing everything possible for J&K under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sinha and Gadkari are expected to draw a roadmap for more roads and tunnels across the UT , to facilitate smooth movement of people. Since J&K is a Himalayan territory with its borders with PoK and Pakistan, it is also in need of smoother highways for the speedy movement to borders where adversary plans anti-India activities .
On Tuesday, Gadkari will inspect Banihal tunnel and also throw open a tunnel at Peerah before paying obeisance at the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi.
