Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has refused to order CBI inquiry  into the alleged rape and murder of Asifa, a minor nomad girl , and she has categorically told a group of BJP ministers who  called on her today  to demand CBI inquiry into the sordid episode.

“ The crime branch is working  and I am satisfied the way they are working , therefore there is no question of my changing the course of investigation at this stage,” she told the BJP ministers and  cautioned them against any politicization or communalization of the issue. She , however, assured them that the inquiry would be free and fair and no innocent would be harassed or tortured.  She told them that they should have trust in  the  High Court that is monitoring the investigations.

She questioned the two of the ministers Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga for visiting the agitators and  alleging that it was  “ jungle raj” in Jammu and Kashmir . “ This is not expected of the responsible minister.”

The BJP ministers, it is learnt also told CM that  PDP ministers Naeem  Akhtar and  Altaf Bukhari’s statements were unacceptable.
