10th Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Tournament commences in Kathua

J&K Police along with other security forces will take all stringent actions to bring an end to the proxy war initiated by Pakistan and its terror handlers. This was stated by the Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh who declared open the 10th edition of Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Tournament at Kathua Sports Stadium today.

The DGP who was the Chief Guest on the occasion inaugurated the Cricket tournament in presence of ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DC Kathua Dr Rahul Yadav, SSP Kathua Shri R C Kotwal, Kathua Municipality Chairman Naresh Sharma, Principal Police Training School Kathua. Roop Lal Bhagat Commandant IRP 19th Bn Benam Tosh. DDC vice chairman Raghunandan Singh, members of Shaheed Welfare Committee Kahtua DDC and ward members, families of martyrs and respectable citizens of the Kathua District

The DGP accompanied by ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh on his arrival paid rich floral tributes to the martyrs at the martyrs gallery. Other dignitaries and families of martyrs and citizens also paid floral tributes to the martyrs on the occasion. The DGP interacted with the teams of the inaugural match.

Speaking on the occasion the DGP said in the memories of our martyrs and for recalling their supreme sacrifices for protecting our nation and people J&K Police is on regular basis organizing various programmes. He thanked dignitaries from administration, civil society and the general public for joining in to remember and in paying tributes to our martyrs. He said that programmes organized in memory of martyrs are very special as we remember them all who laid their lives during the last 30 years while facing challenges of proxy war launched by Pakistan. While paying tributes on behalf of J&K Police and people the DGP said that organizing such programmes always boosts the morale for performing our duties with more zeal and zest and with more responsibilities.

DGP said that the people of Kathua district have always overwhelmingly supported every sports activity held here be it the cricket tournaments or marathon run. He appreciated the role of Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua and sponsors of the cricket tournament for organizing the events at Kathua as also the efforts of the volunteers during Covid.He said that families of martyrs are important part of J&K Police parivar and it gives immense pleasure to witness general public’s support for these families. He said witnessing support of the general public gives more power and energy to J&K Police in performing their professional duties. He hoped that the children of martyrs will commit themselves for the development of the nation and assured that J&K Police is committed to support them in their endeavours. He said that PHQ is providing and is very keen to provide more support and all necessary welfare measures to the families of J&K Police Parivar,

The DGP assured general public that the fight against the proxy war of Pakistan and its terror groups will be dealt with more stringent response. He said that operation against the terrorists are carried out day and night and the war against all those elements inimical to peace, people and development is being accelerated and will not let them succeed at any cost, he added.

Speaking to the media persons the DGP said that we are proud that J&K Police is bravely fighting the long war for 30 years with courage and dedication and has succeeded while giving supreme sacrifice of many brave hearts. He said that organizing sports activities and other civic action programmes is a medium to pay tribute to our martyrs. He said that besides organizing such events J&K Polices continues its efforts to provide opportunities for the family members of our martyrs especially their children and is committed to provide various welfare measures in their support. The DGP said that the security scenario is very progressive as compared to the past and is improving with each passing day. He said that very successful operations were being conducted during recent times in which Pakistani terrorists were neutralized and continuing with stringent action one more terrorist was neutralized today at Harwan Srinagar, he added. He said that our aim is to uproot the terrorism from J&K. He said launch pads and terror camps are active in Pakistan and are being used to infiltrate more terrorists with the support of ISI and their Army. He said that our forces on the border and police in the hinterland are vigilant and alert to thwart any attempt of infiltration. He said that no one is above the law and strict action will be taken if found guilty despite age and gender.

Later the DGP interacted with the families of martyrs at DPL Kathua. He also interacted with the wards of martyrs and presented gifts packs to them.

ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh in his address said that the relation of Police & Public is very strong in Kathua district and the people of Kathua have always supported J&K Police endeavours in organizing sports events. He appreciated the cooperation of people of Kathua during the last two years and added that they not only helped people of J&K but also supported the people of other parts of the country during the peak COVID pandemic period.

Earlier SSP Kathua R C Kotwal in his welcome address welcomed the Chief Guest, other dignitaries and the spectators for their presence at the inauguration. He also briefed chronology of the tournament since its beginning in the year 2010. He informed that this year the tournament will be telecast live on a local channel and a third umpire review system is enabled in this edition.

Pertinent to mention that the 10th edition of Police Martyrs Memorial Tournament league matches will be played for the next 12 days during which 24 league matches will be contested. The participating teams have been divided into four groups. Group A teams include JK Police, LB Shastri Delhi, Lifecare Lucknow and Kathua District CA. Group B teams include Sabi CC Hoshiarpur, Kathua Knight Riders, Vicky 11 Pathankot and Game Changers Jammu. Group C teams include Champions CA Chandigarh, Balaji CC Kurukshetra, Jalandhar Sports Club and Krishnam 11 Amritsar and Group D teams include U P Tigers, GSI Kashmir, Haryana CA and SPJ Gurgaon.

Tournament winner will be rewarded with trophy and cash prize of rupees 3.50 lakh while runner up team will receive trophy and cash prize of rupees 2.50 lakh. Man of the series will be awarded with Maruti Alto 800 car and memento while Man of the Match in the finals will be presented with trophy and cash prize of rupees 20K. Best Batsmen and best bowler of the tournament each will be presented motor bike and a memento. Man of the matches in the league, quarter final and semi final matches each will be presented with memento and cash prize of rupees 2000, 3000 and 5000 respectively.
