April 15, 2026: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested a notorious drug trafficker and alleged organized crime operative who had been evading arrest for over a decade. The accused, identified as Gulzar Ahmed alias Lahu, was apprehended by Miran Sahib Police after a prolonged search operation.
According to officials, the accused is a resident of Chak Waziru in Bishnah tehsil and had been involved in multiple criminal activities across Jammu district. Police records reveal that he is a history-sheeter with at least 27 registered cases in Jammu alone. Out of these, 23 cases were registered at Bishnah Police Station, while others were filed in Gandhi Nagar, Arnia, and Miran Sahib.
Investigators believe that his criminal activities extend far beyond the region. During questioning, it emerged that he may be linked to nearly 100 cases across different parts of the country under various aliases.
Police said the accused was deeply involved in the illegal trade of heroin and had built a vast network stretching from Punjab to Pakistan. Authorities suspect that he sourced narcotics from across the border using drone deliveries, which were then distributed through interstate channels.
The accused reportedly procured heroin, locally known as “chitta,” from contacts in Punjab and Pakistan. Investigations further revealed that his close associates, including family members, were also part of the network. Consignments were often routed through areas near Kartarpur before being distributed.
Officials estimate that the accused has trafficked around 360 kilograms of heroin over time, with a market value of approximately ₹792 crore. The proceeds from these operations were allegedly used to accumulate significant illegal assets.
The accused has been involved in criminal activities since 2006. His early offenses included theft and ATM-related crimes, after which he expanded into bovine smuggling, drug trafficking, and attacks on public servants, including police personnel.
Police records show multiple FIRs registered against him under various sections related to narcotics, arms possession, fraud, and violent crimes. His continued evasion had made him one of the most wanted criminals in the region.
The arrest is being seen as a major success for the police in their crackdown on organized crime and drug trafficking networks. Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify his associates, trace financial assets, and examine the use of SIM cards and communication channels.
Officials also stated that efforts are being made to dismantle the larger network and uncover cross-border connections linked to the case.
“Strict legal action as warranted under law is being initiated,” police said in a statement, adding that more arrests may follow as the probe continues.
