In a brief shootout today morning near Ahadbaba crossing in Sopore area one terrorist was killed.

The killed terrorist has been identified as Asif Maqbool Bhat resident of Athoora Payeen Kreeri District Baramulla. As per police records, the killed terrorist was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT and was wanted by law for his complicity in terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area. In this incident, two police officers suffered injuries and were evacuated to hospital for treatment for their injuries. They are stated to be stable.

According to police records, Asif had history of terror crime records and was part of groups involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area. Several terror crime cases were registered against him.

He was wanted by law for his role in recent terror attacks on civilians in Dangerpora Sopore area in which 04 civilians Mohammad Ashraf Dar, Mohammad Ramzan Dar, Irshad Hussain Rather and a minor girl Usma Jan has sustained grievous gunshot injuries. He was also involved in a terror attack on civilian Sofi Alam resident of Bihar who had sustained a gunshot injury. Besides, he was also responsible for threatening and intimidation of locals via publishing of posters.

Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crime cases.

Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation is in progress.
