Srinagar, December 19:

One-way traffic was on Saturday resumed on the 270-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended on Friday for maintenance while the national highway, the only road connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.


”We resumed traffic this morning on the national highway, the only all weather road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, after day-long suspension on Friday to allow National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to undertake weekly maintenance and repair work”, a traffic police official said today.


Today Jammu bound Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will have to cross Zig, Qazigund between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs. This will follow Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) to Jammu, he said adding that no vehicle will be allowed after cut of timing. He said security force vehicles will also ply from Srinagar to Jammu.


He said Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region remained closed due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.
