New Delhi, July 2:
A spike of 19,000 cases of coronavirus in a day has pushed India’s overall Covid tally to over 6 lakh mark after new cases of infection were reported from Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The death toll due to Covid in India on Thursday was over 17,800. The spike of cases in India comes as government ‘unlocks’ lockdown by gradually removing restrictions. Now, India is the fourth worst-hit country, preceded by Russia, Brazil and the US. As per Johns Hopkins University tally, the US on Wednesday saw the highest single-day spike after it recorded more than 52,000 new Covid cases. Globally, over 10.6 million have been affected due to coronavirus, while 515,542 have died. The World Health Organisation has meanwhile asked countries to ensure that the “new normal” simultaneously prioritises health and the economy so they can recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
