Jammu

Pakistan has  termed the  joint statement of six Kashmiri Parties issued in Srinagar  on Saturday last  as the first  step toward the  new  resistance movement of the newly formed political alliance against the  August 5, 2019  abrogation of the special status and statehood of Jammu and  Kashmir.

Six parties and their leaders including National Conference  president Farooq Abdullah, PDP president  Mehbooba Mufti, JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, People’s Conference chairman Sajjad  Gani Lone ,CPI_M leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami  and Awani National Conference  president Muzaffar Hussain Shah, had issued a strongly worded statement  calling for the restoration of the  special  status and statehood of J&K as it existed on August 4, 2019 .

Cherry picking the parts suiting  Pakistan’s own narration on the change in the constitutional status of J&K within the Indian constitution under the prescribed parameters of the Presidential declaration duly approved by the vast majority of the Parliament, Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi said that this was a very big political statement .

He quoted  this part of the statement  in which the Kashmiri leaders stated : “ We want to assure the people that all our political activities will be subservient to the sacred goal of reverting to the status of J&K  as it existed on 4th August , 2019 ,”with an obvious emphasis to  send a message of support to the signatories of the joint statement .

Qureshi made these remarks at a press conference in Islamabad  two days after his return from China  where he discussed Kashmir issue with  his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi , both of them invoked the U N resolutions .

Normally, Pakistan would dismiss all the statements of  mainstream leaders of Kashmir as the ones as an echo of Delhi, but finding that it was different and in line with Pakistan’s own stand that the Article 370  be restored, it has hailed the statement . It is an open statement of support of Pakistan to the alliance and its statement .
