New Delhi, October 22:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 10am on Friday.

“PM Narendra Modi will address the nation at 10 AM today,” read a one-line tweet by his office.

The announcement comes a day after India scripted history by reaching the 100 crore COVID-19 vaccinations mark. Shortly after the country crossed the milestone on Thursday, Modi congratulated healthcare workers and expressed his gratitude to them. Along with the hashtag ‘vaccine century’, he tweeted, “India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians. Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat.”

The prime minister also visited the vaccination centre at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after the milestone was achieved and interacted with the staff and some of the beneficiaries.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also took to Twitter to congratulate Modi, scientists, health workers and the people of India on their “efforts to protect the vulnerable populations from COVID-19 and achieve vaccine equity targets”.

China is the only nation to have administered more COVID vaccines than India. China claimed to have fully inoculated 1.05 billion citizens by late September.
