Jammu, June 4, 2025: In a historic step towards enhancing connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Katra-Srinagar railway track on June 6, marking a major milestone in the region’s infrastructure journey.
Ahead of the inauguration, a high-level team of senior railway officials has begun detailed inspections of the route. According to sources, a special six-coach inspection train departed New Delhi at 9:30 PM on June 4 and will reach Jammu at 6:45 AM the next morning.
“The inspection train is carrying top officials from various departments of Indian Railways. These include the General Manager of Northern Railway, and Principal Chiefs from Operations, Electrical, Mechanical, and Signal & Telecom wings,” source told JK News Today.
After their arrival in Jammu, the team is scheduled to proceed to Katra, where they will inspect station infrastructure, electrification systems, signalling arrangements, and track readiness — all crucial elements ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Sources say this is part of a routine high-level inspection conducted before any major launch. The officials will also be holding meetings with senior railway staff in Jammu to ensure that all preparations are on track for the June 6 event.
“This inspection is not only technical but also a coordination exercise to ensure every department is aligned. The Katra-Srinagar track is not just a project — it’s a promise of transformation for the region,” a top railway source added.
Meanwhile, the development has raised expectations among passengers, with the new line likely to significantly reduce travel time and improve comfort.
