Srinagar, September 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address an election rally on September 19 in Srinagar to give boost to BJP’s campaign in the Valley where party is seeking to break jinx of the previous elections when it had drawn blank..
Modi ‘s rally in Srinagar next Thursday is a much awaited event, as that will set tone for the party’s presence and results of the second and third phase of the Assembly elections – that is September 25 and October 1 , while he is expected to send his message for the first phase seats from erstwhile Doda district on September 14.
This time Prime Minister’s election rally in Srinagar , or so to say, in the Kashmir Valley has a different meaning and resonance than it was on the eve of the last phase of voting in Kashmir in December 2014. The circumstances are different – that was the time when Jammu and Kashmir was a full-fledged state, including Ladakh, which now sits as a separate union territory, practically having no political say in the elections in this territory . Ladakh is out of geography and political map of Jammu and Kashmir .
It is a result of the abrogation of the Article 370 and 35A, as also the bifurcation of the state into two union territories, subsequently, the issues have changed . Now there is a demand for statehood, and some quarters are evening aiming at restoration of Article 370 which PM and Home Minister Amit Shah have stated categorically is a thing of the past. But, on statehood both PM ,in his rallies , and Unio n Home Minister in the Parliament have promised that it would be restored at an “ appropriate time.”
The people in Kashmir are waiting for Prime Minister’s word on these issues.
Modi knows the aspirations of the people of the whole of Jammu and Kashmir as also how to address them. Now there is wait for September 19, exactly a week from now.
