Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday declared once again that the Union Territory status of J&K is temporary and soon it will get back its full statehood while warning the people against the trap and trappings of three dynastic parties –Congress, National Conference and PDP.
Playing up the long nurtured grouse of Jammu of the regional discrimination that led to its neglect for decades, Prime Minister held out a solemn promise that BJP government in J&K will reverse all the historic wrongs done to the people of this region. Jammu sits in the core of the BJP’s ideology for more than one reason – it is a region with highly nationalistic fervour because of its history rooted in the Indian nationalism particularly after Maharaja Hari Singh acceded the state to India in October 1947.
PM Modi touched the raw nerve of the people of Jammu as for decades they have been complaining of the injustices being piled on them in the matter of services and opportunities. They were unable to find a space for themselves in the erstwhile state, which was ruled by for most of the period by Kashmir’s regional parties. He named the three dynasties- Gandhi’s, Muftis and Abdullah’s and the parties run by them in his nearly 40-minute speech and reminded them that how Jammu suffered during their rule.
It is for the first time that any Prime Minister of the country has placed Jammu at the centre of Jammu and Kashmir politics and credited it with the power to decide future of both the regions combined. So far, there has been a thrust on the Valley politics, Jammu was treated as a poor cousin
Prime Minister, without drawing parallels between the two regions, placed Jammu as a victim of neglect perpetuated by three dynasties and their parties. Some of the injustice has been undone by his government; he claimed and added emphatically that other areas of their concern will be taken care of. The words of Prime Minister had ring of truth, as it was from the same venue of M a Stadium in December 2013 as prime ministerial candidate that he had promised to do away with Article 370, and that’s what his government did on August 5, 2019.
Today’s rally will be remembered in the history for Prime Minister’s enthusiastic connect with the emotions of the people of the region , as he articulated all their decades –long unaddressed concerns, from jobs to development and opportunities , and he also promised to address each and every issue if the seats BJP comes to power, He said next phase in which 24 seats of the region will go to polls on October 1 ,will confer absolute majority to BJP to enable it to form the government
