Udhampur, April 19: Polling has started across Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency began on an enthusiastic note in the first phase of polling on Friday to decide on the fate of 12 candidates, in which BJP and Congress nominees are locked in a straight contest.
The polling began with voters – many of them above 18 queuing up at polling stations since early morning , much before the scheduled start of the polling at 7 a.m. The polling for the day will conclude at 6 p m.
There are over 16 lakh voters in this prestigious constituency that traverses from plains of Kathua to hills and mountains of Udhampur, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region .
The voters had started queuing up in large numbers to cast their vote early .
The administration has made several arrangements for facilitating the comfortable casting of votes across the constituency .
Udhampur constituency of Jammu and Kashmir is among the 102 constituencies going to polls across the country in first phase . There would be seven-phased polling from April 19 to June 1, and the results will be declared on June 4. Jammu and Kashmir is going to polls in first five phases , beginning with Udhampur today, followed by Jammu—Reasi on April 26 , Anantnag-Rajouri on May 6 , Srinagar on May 13 and Baramulla on May 20.
