Jammu/ Baramulla: The polling for third and final phase of Assembly elections in J&K began on a brisk note on Tuesday morning which will decide how close BJP be to its goal of forming a Jammu-centric government
Fate of 415 candidates across 40 constituencies in Hindu heartland of Jammu, and almost 100 percent Muslim dominated north Kashmir will be sealed in EVMs .
Jammu region’s Hindu dominated four districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Samba , accounting for 24 seats , and 16 in Baramulla, Bandipore, and Kupwara districts, are being closely watched as this is the first and last phase.
BJP that has invested everything in these seats in Jammu region , including its promise to deliver a government of Jammu and by Jammu for J&K UT, is aiming to win a majority of 24 seats . It is facing contest on a few seats only as Congress has not been able to put a united face nor fight.
On the other hand, north Kashmir will show how relevant is Engineer Rashid brand of soft separatism politics after Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year. Engineering Rashid had won Baramulla Lok Sabha seat by trouncing NC vice president Omar Abdullah and People’s Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone . Now it’s a test for him as he is caught in a controversy whether he’s his man or blessed by some anti- traditional political forces.
Long queues were seen outside polling booths across 40 seats sitting in Jammu plains – Gateway to J&K, Kathua, to the high reaches in Gurez on the LoC.
