Jammu , February 01 : There is a lot of debate over Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra that concluded in Srinagar on Monday amidst snowfall as to whether it was a success or not , or what message did it convey or did not . These debates in the newspapers, TV channels and social media, however, have omitted a crucial point that it was Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who had the confidence in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir , and had told Congress leaders weeks before the “ yatra” entered the Union Territory that they would face no problem in their journey to Kashmir, the destination of the yatra.
LG Sinha knew the ground situation , he knew that how much it has transformed since the abrogation of Article 370 , and how the mood of the people in the UT had changed since . This situation , he believes , is due to the consistent and persistent counter-terrorism operations across the UT, but more than that he had confidence in the people who had become partners in J&K’s journey toward progress and prosperity due to the policies of the Government of India , led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There was an element of surprise , when Rajni Patil , Congress leader told media after meeting Manoj Sinha in Srinagar, that the “ Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had given them the permission to bring the yatra to J&K and allow it to culminate in Kashmir on the scheduled date and time.” This surprise was due to the fact that , in the mind of opposition parties , that the situation in J&K was far from being satisfactory , and secondly , they did not expect the LG to permit them to bring the yatra to J&K.
Both the points of the Opposition party, Congress , in this case, proved wrong . The LG administration , as a responsible entity , to make the things smooth for all the people . And the yatra was a genuine political activity , which the government demonstrated, would be allowed . The LG administration stood by its word.
It was, however, regrettable , that Rahul Gandhi despite what he claimed was a “ successful yatra” reflected on the security situation in negative terms . He referred to the “ bomb blasts” and killings. His reference was to twin blasts in Narwal area of Jammu , and January 1 killings in Dangri village in border district of Rajouri, in which seven people were killed. That being that .
There are two-points that Rahul Gandhi should have admitted that despite the way he assessed the security situation , his yatra did not face any security problem . That point should have been acknowledged . Secondly, had he turned the pages prior to the abrogation of Article 370 , blasts and killings were a norm . Rahul was unfair to his own yatra and unkind to the arrangements that facilitated his yatra to Kashmir .
The moot point is that after the people have watched him play in snow with his sister Priyanka , or move around boulevard , and offer prayers at Kheer Bhwani and Hazratbal , he cannot carry on the narrative of J&K not being safe. Then he would be hiding the truth , which the people have seen with their own eyes .
