Mendhar, September 15:

Apni Party Youth Wing State Vice President and Media Coordinator, Raqeeq Ahmed Khan has appealed to the Govt to sanction route permits to fresh public transport vehicles in Pir Panjal region keeping in view repeated road accidents to replace the old and defunct passenger vehicles.

In a statement issued to express anguish over the killing of passengers in Rajouri, he criticized the traffic rule violators and demanded that the old vehicles should not be allowed to ply on the roads in the hilly areas.

He said that the main causes of the accidents are mostly unlicensed and inexperienced drivers and bad road conditions. However, hardly anyone points finger towards the weak points which can be resolved with active involvement of civil administration, road transport department and traffic police.

“If these departments take their work seriously such incidents can be avoided. The roads in the rural belt of the hilly districts in Pir Panjal are in bad condition and there is a need to repair them,” he said.

In the present situation, he said that the Govt should issue fresh permits as per the requirements and replace all the old passenger vehicles with new ones and the traffic police should have a separate driving institute to train drivers of hilly regions.

“J&KRTC has a good record of minimum road accidents and the buses of RTC can be used on the difficult routes as their drivers are well experienced,” he suggested.

Meanwhile, he expressed sympathy with the family members of the deceased passengers who got killed in Rajouri and Poonch road accidents in the last 24 hours.
