R S Pura, November 16:

The decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reopening of Kartarpur Corridor ahead of Parkashpurab of Guru Nanak is a big gift to the members of Sikh community as pandemic COVID-19 had played a spoilsport by stopping hundreds of pilgrims from visiting the most revered shrine since March 2020.

This was stated by Gurdeep Singh Saini State General Secretary and Sarpanch All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference while addressing media persons here on Tuesday.  He said that the entire Sikh community is delighted with this timely step by the Modi government as there is deep connect of Sikhs with the shrine of their first guru. He welcomed the step and said this as a big decision as far as interests of the Sikh community are concerned.

Saini said that after the reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor, Sikh pilgrims will be able to visit Shri Kartarpur Sahib on the auspicious occasion of Parkashpurab of Guru Nanak. He said that the announcement of reopening follows three meetings of BJP leaders from Punjab, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir with President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking that the corridor be reopened.

“Closed in March 2020 in the wake of the Covid pandemic, the Kartarpur Corridor linking Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal, Pakistan, will reopen for pilgrims on Wednesday thus giving a chance to followers of Guru nanak to pay obeisance at Kartarpur Sahib”, Saini said, adding that Sikhs of the country are grateful to PM Modi and HM Shah for the best decision taken over the issue.
