Jammu, October 07:

Jammu and Kashmir government is all set to lift all restrictions on movement of the people at Lakhanpur, the gateway of the Union Territory where the people were stopped and tested , quarantined before being allowed in.

“These restrictions on entry to J&K at Lakhanpur border will go in a day or two, “ a senior officer told JK News Today on Wednesday. He also disclosed that an announcement to this effect may be made soon “maybe today evening”
Despite the Government of India having lifted movement of the people from one part to the other long back as part of easing of the lockdown restrictions necessitated by the spread of Corona Virus, J&K government had been issuing its separate guidelines retaining the strict restrictions on the movement of the people.

The incoming passengers had to wait for days together before they were allowed into the Union Territory.

The idea behind lifting the restrictions is upcoming festival season beginning with holy Navratras , during which pilgrims come from all across the country, particularly northern India to pay obeisance at the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi nestled in Trikuta hills of Pir Panjal range of Himalayas.

Before the pandemic struck the country, thousands of pilgrims used to visit the shrine. The Yatra was stopped for almost four months in March when pandemic started spreading fast and also due to the nation- wide lockdown.

It has affected adversely the economy of the region, especially that of Katra where hoteliers and shopkeepers suffered huge losses due to the stoppage of pilgrims.

Though the Yatra was allowed last month but the restrictions at Lakhanpur had made things difficult for the pilgrims.
