New Delhi,  April 26:

Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Saad Kandhavli has tested negative for Covid-19, his lawyer informed on Sunday. He was ordered to get tested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.

Now, Maulana Saad may appear before the crime branch on Monday. So far, the crime branch has not received his Covid-19 test results. However, Maulana Saad’s legal team may likely hand over his report to the crime branch on Monday.

The Tablighi Jammat leader spoke to India Today TV on Friday. In the interview, Maulana Saad said he had undergone a Covid-19 test and his results were awaited.

The Delhi Police’s crime branch had, on March 31, lodged an FIR against seven people, including the cleric, on a complaint by Station House Officer of Nizamuddin police station for holding a congregation of Tablighi Jamaat followers in alleged violation of the orders against large gatherings to contain the spread of coronavirus.

On April 16, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a money laundering case against Maulana Saad, trusts linked to the Jamaat and others. Officials said an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR)was filed by the agency based on a Delhi Police FIR.

Maulana Saad had organised the religious gathering at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi last month against the social distancing protocol imposed by the Centre to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
