Jammu, March 12- The Photography Club of the University of Jammu organized a Heritage and Street Photography Walk today on March 10, 2023, at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex and the Old City Market under the aegis of ‘DUGGAR DARPAN’, a 10-day multi-Arts festival organized by the UTSAAH-The Clubs, University of Jammu in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (Regional branch Jammu). The event was coordinated by Dr. Pritam Singh and the participants were mentored by Prof Parmil Kumar.
The walk was an opportunity for more than 30 participating students, scholars and employees from various departments of the University to explore and capture the rich cultural heritage of Jammu. The students were equipped with their cameras and were guided by experienced mentors throughout the walk.
The first stop early in the morning was the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, where the students were able to capture the stunning architecture and intricate details of the complex. The complex served as the royal residence of the Dogra kings and has been converted into a museum showcasing the region’s art and culture.
The group then moved on to the old city market, which is known for its bustling streets and vibrant culture. The students were able to capture the daily life of the locals, the scintillating colours of the market, and the unique architecture of the buildings.
Dr. Pritam Singh, the coordinator of the event, expressed his excitement about the success of the walk. He emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Jammu through photography and other forms of art. Prof Parmil Kumar, the resource person appreciated the enthusiasm of the students and encouraged them to continue exploring their passion for photography.Dr. Megna Dhar from Department of Library Science, University of Jammu also joined the contingent and guided the students about the history of the Dogra Dynasty.
Not only the students but local residents, members of the civil society and street vendors of Old Jammu city were also found excited after having an interaction for the very first time with the members of such type of club. They appreciate a lot the vision of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu to organize such events of exploration and Conservation of Dogra Heritage and Culture through the lens.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Chairperson UTSAAH-The Clubs, University of Jammu, has guided all the arrangements and also congratulated the club for their successful event.
The Heritage and Street Photography Walk organized by the Photography Club of the University of Jammu was an event of an impact that allowed students to experience and capture the cultural heritage of Jammu through their lenses.
