Tickets for special trains can be bought from the official IRCTC website. Indian Railways has decided to run 15 pairs of special trains for passengers during the lockdown.

Tickets for special passenger trains can be bought from the Indian Railways’ official ticketing portal IRCTC. After a bit of delay, the sale of tickets was started at 6 pm on May 11. The train services start on May 12.

In an order on Sunday, the Indian Railways announced its decision to operate AC coaches of passenger trains connecting New Delhi to 10 major cities across India starting May 12. This is in addition to the Shramik Special trains that are being operated to facilitate the return of migrant workers to their respective native homes.

Booking for these trains began on the IRCTC website at 6 pm on Monday. Earlier, the ticket sale was supposed to start at 4 pm, but the railways said that there was issue with uploading of data on the IRCT system that caused the delay.

“Data pertaining to special trains is being fed on the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website. Train ticket bookings will be available in a short while. Please wait. Inconvenience is regretted,” the Ministry of Railways Monday said on Monday afternoon.

This statement was in response to unconfirmed reports about the IRCTC website crashing due to high traffic.
