An army soldier was killed in a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s  Bandipora district, while another army man was killed in a gunfight with suspected militants near the LoC in Jammu’s Rajouri district, officials said on Monday.

“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Gurez sector this morning. Our troops retaliated to the violation in adequate measure and effectively,” an army official said.

He said, “One soldier was killed in the firing by Pakistani troops.”

ARMY MAN KILLED IN GUNFIGHT

“An Army soldier was killed in a gunfight that broke out between soldiers and suspected infiltrators aided by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district,” PTI quoted officials as having said.

They said, “Pakistan Army has been aiding the suspects by opening heavy fire at the Indian posts. Troops picked up suspicious movements along the LoC in Keri Battal belt in Sunderbani sector this morning. A loud blast was then heard followed by heavy firing from Pakistan. Indian troops retaliated promptly leading to a fierce gunfight.”

The exchange of fire was on till last reports came in, a defence spokesperson said.
