Jammu, August 10:
The United Nations General Assembly President elect Volkan Bozkir on Monday asked Pakistan to seek mutual engagement with India for Kashmir solution , critical for sustainable peace in South Asia refraining from any comment indicating any tilt toward Pakistan’s standpoint .
Keeping in view the new office that he is going to assume next month , Bozkir advised Pakistan to go in for maintenance of security of the region through political and diplomatic means . He was speaking to media in Islamabad on Monday after meeting Pakistani Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi who had painted a very grim picture of the situation in Kashmir and wanted the visiting dignitary to commit to their stand .
But Bozkir , after hearing all about the “ grave” and serious situation in Kashmir from Pakistani leaders , told the media that the way forward lies in “ mutual engagement” hinting at the dialogue between India and Pakistan , this was a clear rejection of the salvos that Pakistani leadership wanted him to fire at India by talking about the UN resolutions on Kashmir and the “ grave” human rights situation in the Valley.
He said that he has a new responsibility coming his way and therefore would go by the obligation of the position that he is going to assume .
Bozkir was quoted by Pakistani media , as saying ,” “ solving the Kashmir issue was key to sustainable peace in south Asia.”
“ “Regional security should be maintained through political and diplomatic solutions. Difficult challenges can be resolved through meaningful, mutual engagement.”
