Srinagar: The Jal Shakti (PHE) Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal and Srinagar have declared 37 springs in these districts unfit for human consumption due to bacterial contamination.
A massive drive of random sampling and testing was carried out across various springs in Ganderbal District. Shockingly, out of 40 water samples collected, 37 were found to be bacteriologically positive, indicating severe contamination. This revelation has raised serious health concerns for locals who rely on these natural water sources for their daily consumption.
Through an official notice, the authorities have urged the general public of District Ganderbal and rural areas of Srinagar to avoid using spring water for drinking purposes. Instead, residents are advised to rely solely on tap water until further notice.
However, if there is an absolute necessity to use spring water, officials have strongly recommended boiling it for a prolonged period before consumption to eliminate potential health risks.
This advisory aims to prevent waterborne diseases and ensure the safety of residents. The Jal Shakti Department has assured continued monitoring and necessary remedial actions to address the contamination issue.
