Srinagar, October 28: Ever heard of any office of Divisional Commissioner of J&K, implying that there is some state level post of this nomenclature, which administers the whole of this state from Ladakh to Valley and to Jammu region .
No one in Jammu and Kashmir has seen or heard of any such posts, but still many channels were running a scroll with a former bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah, Divisional Commissioner, J&K. . That is the tragedy of the TV news today , and most unfortunate part is that they have become part of the misinformation about Kashmir, the place and the people..
These TV channels broadcast such distortions about Kashmir so much that now it appears that they are either illiterate or are deliberately into the game.
Wajahat Habibullah, a 1968 batch IAS officer of J&K cadre was Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir from 1991 to 1993, with high connections to Gandhi family . He also is known for claiming credits for resolving issues when he was lying unconscious in a hospital bed in New Delhi in November 1993.
He was in news because he was part of a delegation led by former external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha that visited Kashmir and returned with a tag of ice breaker , for its members were able to talk to separatists . It may have acquired some significance because this delegation was able to talk to the likes of Syed Ali Shah Geelani , Mirwaiz Umar Farooq , while some prominent members of the All Party Delegation like Sita Ram Yechury, D . Raja and Sharad Yadav were denied entry to the home of Geelani and the Mirwaiz refused to discuss Kashmir with others like Asaduddin Owaisi .
