Jammu, March 31: Mark this date as this will go in the history as the most peaceful month since beginning of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir with only one incident of killing and that too of an infiltrator on Line of Control (LoC).

During this month neither a civilian has died nor has any casualty been reported among security forces. Even not a single militant has been killed in the union territory.

As per the data available, only one infiltrator was killed in Jebdi area on LoC in Kupwara district whereas no other killing or injury was reported from anywhere. Militants had managed to give a slip to security forces during a cordon and search operation in Mitrigam hamlet of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after a brief exchange of fire.

Till February end this year, four local militants were killed in two encounters in Kashmir Valley whereas security forces also killed four infiltrators on borders. Militants had killed eight civilians including a Kashmiri Pandit and two kids. A soldier Pawan Kumar also laid down his life for the country during an encounter in Awantipora area of Pulwama district. One soldier was also injured in the same encounter.

Comparing the month of March 2023 with months of March of 2022 and 2021, one can clearly see how the militancy has come down. During March 2022, there were 24 casualties including 13 militants, seven civilians, two policemen and two soldiers whereas in 2021, J&K witnessed 18 casualties including 11 militants, two civilians, four soldiers and a policeman.

The decrease in militancy related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir are having a positive impact on overall situation as more and more tourists are heading to this place, which is giving boost to the economy.
