Dr. Sameena Wani daughter of  Gulzar Ahmad Wani who hails from a small village Wussan Bangil Tajpora in Tangmarg, Kashmir has made the J&K proud by her achievements.

She had a simple and a modest upbringing but her parents defied all the odds and managed the best possible education for her and her brother.

She did her master’s degree from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, University of Kashmir. Dr. Wani completed her Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a brief three-year period in August, 2018 from the Dept. of Experimental Medicine & Biotechnology, Postgraduate institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India (Reg#. 10540-PG-2015).

She has authored five international publications from her Ph.D. work. During her Ph.D., she discovered the role of urinary exosomal microRNA, miR-2909, as a potential biomarker for the early detection and diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. Currently, Dr. Wani is a young scientist in the very prestigious and world renowned David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), California, United States of America. She is dedicated and focused to explore the cellular and molecular mechanisms in autoimmunity and intestinal inflammation affecting the pathophysiology of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD).

Dr. Wani has a younger brother who she considers a great motivation and support. Dr. Wani believes she wouldn’t have done it without the unconditional love, encouragement and support from her dad, mom and her brother. She has a special thank you message for her Dad:
