Nine terrorists, including two commanders, have been killed in less than 24 hours in Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir said on Monday.

Srinagar, June 8:

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday killed four terrorists in an encounter in Shopian district. In a similar operation on Sunday, five terrorists were killed in Reban area of the same district.

With the most recent encounter on Monday, the security forces in Kashmir have killed at least 15 terrorists in separate operations.

“Nine terrorists, including two commanders, have been killed in less than 24 hours. These operations are very successful,” said Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir.

As per sources, more than 84 militants have been killed since January. “There is constant exercise of gathering intelligence and working on it which is going on. That is why these operations are taking place at such pace”, said a senior police officer.

There have been intelligence reports that suggest that terrorists in the Valley are attempting to increase their activities, particularly this year. And so, the anti-militancy grid has hence been kept on an alert to counter this threat.

While security forces have had some major successes, there have been causalities to the forces as well.

One of the biggest blows for security forces was in May when a Commanding Officer of an anti-insurgency unit, a Major and three other security forces personnel lost their lives in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Handwara after they entered a house chasing a group of terrorists.
