Doda, September 21:

Establishing airport at Kishtwar in Chenab valley is a strategic move by Government of India to counter emerging Chinese threat in Ladakh.
This airport will give a back up to Indian Air Force and Indian Army to counter China if anything untoward happens in Ladakh.
For past few months China has increased its aggression in eastern Ladakh and captured Indian territory. They even killed 20 soldiers of Indian Army and also faced retaliation. Since then tension is always increasing and China is not going back.
Kishtwar district is the nearest area bordering the Union territory of Ladakh and it has gained strategic importance since the crisis. Every day fighter jets are hovering over twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar and GoI is well aware of strategic importance of the area.
In this regard, GoI and union territory of Jammu and Kashmir signed a memorandum of understanding to develop airport in Kishtwar.
