Advanced measures needed to prevent surge in COVID-19 during winters: Javid Baig

JK News Today

Srinagar, September 26:

Apni Party spokesman Javid Baig on Saturday
urged the J&K government to go for free-of-cost flu vaccination for
vulnerable members of BPL families across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, Baig observed that with the onset of
winter there is a usual spike in flu and influenza cases especially in
Kashmir valley. He said that in view of the prevailing COVID pandemic,
the government must take some concrete measures in advance in order to
stem the spread of this deadly disease especially during winters.

“The economically underprivileged and BPL families in the valley would
not be in a position to bear the costs of vaccinations against flu and
other related diseases that emerge in winter in Kashmir. So the
government should go for free vaccination of such families and
vulnerable sections in order to prevent the spread of diseases,” he
said

Baig urged the Lt. Governor led administration to pay heed to various
reports by experts highlighting the risks posed by unvaccinated
individuals who can further spread the virus in this pesky situation.

“Before the onset of flu season that starts in October the government
must ensure availability of free of cost flu vaccines at all
government-run healthcare institutions across J&K especially the
Valley where the prevalence of this communicable disease remains
more,” Apni party spokesman added.

He said that the government must take all measures including the free
flu vaccination among poor families in order to reduce the risk of
spike in severe COVID-19 infections within the community.

“The old, ailing and the children are more prone to the flu and other
related communicable diseases in Kashmir especially during winter
season. So the government must take immediate steps to prevent the
flow of patients to hospitals by preemptive vaccinations,” Baig added.
