Army personnel rescued civilians trapped in snow in high altitude areas in Keran and administered medical care to save their lives.


Army said that the humanitarian assistance was given by Sentinels of Keran in Kupwara district.
At approx 1700h on 21 Mar 21, call was received from residents of Trehgam regarding trapping of one Mr Adil Karim Lone s/o Abdul Karim Lone in snowslide between Patra & Melyal. The panicked residents requested assistance of Army in locating & rescuing the missing individual.

The Sentinels of Keran immediately swung into action & an ART with rescue equipment was launched.

After moving approximately 1.5Km in heavy snow conditions the team found the individual trapped under snow alongwith his vehicle.

The individual was pulled out & evacuated to Army Medical Facility at Pharkian wherein he was aministered immediate lifesaving & stabilizing treatment.

Thereafter the individual was evacuated by Civil Ambulance to Govt Hospital Kupwara.

The timely action by Army, Civil Authorities & trust reposed by civilians bore fruit as the individual could be rescued & tragedy was averted.

The local population expressed their gratitude & the incident served to reinforce the bonds of trust & interdependence between the Awaam & the Army.
