After overrunning about half a dozen deadlines India’s longest  Chenan-Nashri Tunnel is expected to be ready early February 2017.

According to sources the work of internet connectivity, cctv camera installation, mobile tower installations, fm radio and other food stalls work under process which take slightly over one month.

The work on 9.2 kilometers tunnel started in June 2010 and it was expected to be completed by December 2015. But fresh deadlines were overrun about six times. Now it is expected to be ready by February and may be thrown open to traffic by March 2017.

This tunnel will reduce distance between Jammu and Srinagar by 31 kilometers.

Another Banihal-Qazigund tunnel which will be 8.45 kilometers long will further reduce the distance between Jammu and Srinagar by 30 kilometers. Date of completion of this tunnel, on which the work began in 2011, has not been announced as yet.
