The Election Commission of India has registered Apni Party and also allotted cricket bat as election symbol to it , giving a boost to the youngest regional party of Jammu and Kashmir.

The sources said that the ECI registered the Apni Party as a regional party of Jammu and Kashmir , founded by leading businessman turned politician Syed Altaf Bukhari in March this year. The party had committed itself to the restoration of the statehood and pressed for early Assembly polls to meet the political aspirations of the people of J&K , and also to serve as a bridge between the two major regions – Kashmir and Jammu.

The news of registration of the party and the allotment of the symbol has come at a time of the ongoing District Development Council polls and bye-election to the vacant ULB and Panchayat positions.

Apni Party , sources disclosed, will be contesting all the 140 DDC seats across 10 districts of the Valley, while it would contest as many as possible seats in some of the districts in Jammu region .

The preparations of the party are in full swing for the polls , which will be first opportunity for it to register as a political force in J&K, as the DDC polls are the first to be held since its formation.

Sources said that the party leaders have increased their people -reach out plans within the prescribed limits of the Covid-19 restrictions .
