To celebrate National Dentists Day, a team of dentists led by Dr.Gautam Sharma, President Indian Dental Association (IDA), today conducted a dental check-up and awareness camp and distributed free Colgate toothpastes and toothbrushes at Sunrise Public School, Channi, Jammu.

This school  is run by Sunrise Educational Trust established in 2012 which offers free education including books and uniform to the children residing in slums, below poverty line students and those who belong to weaker section of society.

As many as 95 students were examined during the dental camp.

National Dentist Day is observed on 24th December in India to honour the contributions of Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed, the pioneer of dentistry in India and one of the revered names in the history of Indian dentistry. He was born on 24 December, 1890 in the Bardhanpara village of Dacca district of undivided Bengal. In recognition of his dedicated service to the nation and the people, the Government of India in 1964 awarded him the Padma Bhushan, a rare and coveted honour presented never before to a dentist.

Dr.Ramnish Gupta, Dy. Commandant  19 IRB inaugurated the camp and appreciated the noble cause undertaken by Sunrise educational trust for educating the children who can’t afford it.

Dr.Bhupinder Singh, secretary IDA Jammu said that they have identified some more schools which educate the students from poor socio-economic background and IDA will target these schools to conduct future dental check-up programmes. Dr.Vibha Raina, Dr.Niharika Gupta, Dr.Pankaj Bhagat and Dr. Rahul Gupta from Kathua provided their services at this camp.

Founder of Sunrise educational trust Sh.Rajesh Sharma, Director Abhishek Padha , Sahil Sharma and Manpreet Kour thanked Indian Dental association team for conducting the dental Check-up camp.

Principal of the school Babita Sharma and teachers Nidhi Singh, Shivangi Sharma and Sudesh Sharma were also present at the camp.
