Jammu, March 18: An earthquake measuring 5.0 on Richter scale hit Hindukush region of Afghanistan this morning and the tremors were felt in Kargil region of union territory of Ladakh.
The earthquake occurred at 5.30 am today, according to the national center for seismology.
There was no loss of life or property reported in the region.
Geologists have said that Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring Ladakh region can witness major earthquakes and these can lead to widespread loss of life and property. But at the same time they believe that low intensity earthquakes release the pressure and thus the threat of bigger earthquakes become less.
