Jammu, August 28: The Election Commission of India has directed the Union Territory administration of J&K to provide panel of IPS officers for the post of SP/SSP Srinagar, Baramulla , Handwara and Kupwara by 5 p m. tomorrow- August 29, according to highly placed sources. These directions have been issued after the Commission approved wide-ranging changes in the civil and police administration with regard to the Deputy Commissioners and SPs and SSPs in some of the districts in the Valley .
The sources also disclosed that ECI has also approved the appointment of Nalin Prabhat , IPS as Director General of Police ( Operations and Security) J&K police till September 30, 2024 . He is currently on inter-state deputation and posted as Special DG ( J&K ) till September 30, 2024. Nalin Prabhat will take over his new responsibilities with immediate effect .
The Commission has also approved the extension of two years in the tenure of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid., IAS as DC Anantnag . His tenure was completed on 08-07-2024 .
These measures have been undertaken to tone up the administration ahead of the Assembly elections which have become most prestigious democratic exercise in the country after the Lok Sabha elections which concluded in June this year.
The Commission has directed that Ashish Mishra, IPS, SSP Srinagar be relieved , who transferred from J&K to Delhi police in June 2023 but could not be relieved due to administrative reasons .
Commission has directed the transfers of SSP Baramulla,
Gurinderpal Singh, IPS, SP Handwara, Dawood Ayoub, JKPS and SSP Kupwara Shobhit Saxena, IPS
