A week long Women’s Ice climbing festival in Nubra valley under Khelo India initiative organised by Nubra Mountaineering Association, Himalayan Health Project and Councillor Panamik kick started at Panamik.

Councillor Panamik Tsering Sandup was the chief guest at the function, President, Nubra Mountaineering Association Rigzin Tsewang and Dr. Nordan Otzer were the guest of Honour.

Former Deputy CEC and councillor Tsering Sandup thanked District Youth and sports services department for providing financial support under Khelo India for the initiative of promoting and encouraging women of Nubra to participate in ice climbing.

He said the idea brings forth the aim of the UT Ladakh and LAHDC to promote the winter tourism in Ladakh, adding that LAHDC would extend all help in the promotion of this sport and they will soon organise Nubra Sport Festival in coming summer months.

Rigzin Tsewang , trainer of the event and president of Nubra Mountaineering Association said the first ever ice climbing festival exclusively for women will encourage women from Nubra valley to lead in climbing in whole world and it will send a strong message across the world that women can play equal role in adventure sports.
