Five crucial airfields in Jammu and Kashmir lack Instrument Landing System, a critical deficiency for the airfields  in the state that is having borders with Pakistan and China, both these countries have fought wars with India.

Instrument Landing system  enables pilots to land with the help of the radio signals in the absence of a visual contact with the runway .

The airfields at Leh, Udhampur, Awantipore, Thoise and Kargil are not having the ILS . This was disclosed by minister of state for defence Subash Bhamre in reply to a question of  Raghav Lakhanpal in Lok Sabha today.

Jammu and Kashmir is not the only border state without this facility, Pathankot in Punjab, Ambala and Sirsa in Haryana are also among these ILS sans airfields.

In all, there are 36 airfields without ILS , the minister said.
