Srinagar,  January 9 ( JKNT )   All Parties  Hurriyat Conference on Monday  hailed the offer of  new United Nations’ Secretary General  to become an  “ honest broker” to resolve  issues between  two nuclear-powered  South Asian Countries India and Pakistan, and reiterated that the  Kashmir issue  needs the attention on priority as it is pending for long on the United Nations’ agenda.

A statement by the APHC, which has been shifting its goal posts regarding resolution of K- issue from trilateral dialogue to the implementation of the U N resolutions on Kashmir, said that the issue should be settled as per the  “ aspirations of the people of Kashmir..”

The Hurriyat Conference offered its reaction  after claim of radio Pakistan claiming the  U N Secretary General Antonio  Gutress who took over on January 1  from Ban Ki Moon  for the highest paid job at the world body , had proffered to be the “ honest broker between the two countries. “ The claim was based on the  concern voiced by Pakistan’s permanent representative  Maleeha Lodhi  in her introductory meting with the new U N secretary General.

The Hurriyat claimed that Kashmir  was the tension-inducing issue  between India and Pakistan.

Appealing the UN Secretary General to take serious note of the gruesome rights violations in Kashmir, the statement said the  “UN should take note of the Government of India’s use of brutal force on the civilian population in Kashmir and take meaningful steps for the resolution of the vexed issue.”
