Pakistan Foreign Secretary Zahid Hafiz Chaudhri had the cheeks to question India’s locus standi on Gilgit-Baltistan after Indian foreign office “ firmly rejected “ Islamabad’s declaration of these territories as “ provisional province of Pakistan”.
Chudhri and the government , on behalf of which , he issued a statement have no knowledge of history .
When did Pakistan come into being ? Answer , August 14, 1947.
What were the areas of Jammu and Kashmir state at the time- entire Jammu and Kashmir on both sides of the LoC , including what is now named as Gilgit Baltistan .
Last Dogra king of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh acceded he whole of the state to India on October 26, 1947 , after Pakistan army invaded Jammu and Kashmir along with tribesmen to annex Kashmir . The result was that Pakistan’s aggression was repulsed from most of the areas of the state .
Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Skardu agency later known as “ Northern Areas” and after that “ so-called Gilgit-Baltistan” illegally in complete violation of the international laws and norms.
Does Pakistan have any document to prove its claim on these territories. Not even a trace of paper, while India has instrument of accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh, a legal document that has entered into the Indian records and history as irrefutable evidence of India’s sovereignty over its integral part – Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and all the territories that are currently in the illegal occupation of Pakistan and China.
Come to Sunday- November 1, when Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced his government’s decision to grant provisional provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan. He claimed at a function attended by a crowd of not more than 200 people that it was being done in response to what he called “ long-pending demand of the people of the region.”
Even if , for argument sake, Imran Khan is to be trusted , though the fact remains that his own country doesn’t trust him , why there were no celebrations on this announcement . the region was as quiet as the mountains . The people were numbed by this announcement .
So, what does it tell that people of the region who had protested against Pakistan and its army for years together , do not want to live under the military boots .
Now, Mr Chaudhri needs to re-read his own statement , and tell who has the locus standi to speak on the issue .
Let it be put this way in his own words ,” Regurgitation of false and fabricated claims by Pakistan can neither change the facts nor divert attention from Pakistan’s illegal actions.”
