Even as India’s coronavirus tally keeps rising every single day, the silver lining seems to be the declining fatality rate which currently stands at 1.64 per cent. According to the health ministry, this case fatality rate (CFR) is one of the lowest in the world and efforts are on to further reduce it to less than 1 per cent. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said India has managed the coronavirus situation well and that the lockdown has helped prevent nearly 29 lakh cases. India currently has over 48 lakh cases with nearly 80,000 fatalities. While India is has been consistently recording the highest number of daily cases in the world, more than 37 lakh people have recovered after getting infected in the country. At present, India’s total number of infections are only behind the United States, which still accounts for the highest number of cases and deaths.
