Calling it as a blot on democracy, the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, AJKPC have asked the State government to review its decision to hold indirect elections for the Sarpanches._
Anil Sharma, president of the Panchayat Conference while addressing a gathering of panchs, Sarpanches there in district Samba reiterated
the demand of his organization to roll back the decision of holding indirect elections for the post of Sarpanches.
He said, ‘In a democratic country like India, it is painful that an elected government is ceasing the rights of the citizens to popularly elect their own leaders’.
