Srinagar, November 9: The Assembly Secretariat today sent the resolution passed by the Assembly demanding restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir to Chief Secretary asking him to forward it to the Centre .
The resolution was passed by a voice vote on November 6 , two days after the first session of the first-ever legislative Assembly of the UT of J&K commenced amidst ruckus created by BJP MLAs who opposed its presentation in the House in what they called in a superstitious manner. The BJP MLASs continued to protest even after the proceedings of the day were adjourned by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
A carefully drafted resolution passed by the Assembly sought restoration of the special status and privileges that the state had, and which were abrogated on August 5, 2019 . The resolution urged the Centre to initiate dialogue with the elected representatives to work out mechanisms to restore special status in view of the national unity and legitimate aspirations of the people of J&K.
This resolution stirred huge controversy as not only the BJP as party opposed it and charged the National Conference- Congress with inflaming passions of the people on the issue which is dead and buried , but also the national leadership . Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have declared that no power in his world can ever resurrect Article 370.
This remains to be seen as to in which manner the resolution is forwarded to the Centre at all – as J&K is having an hybrid government in which Lieutenant Governor has all the powers of public order, control on the central government officers as also on finances . Chief Minister and his government are almost powerless.
