Srinagar, September 25:

The Indian army has denied the reports that Lance Naik Sandeep Singh who was killed in an encounter with a group of infiltrators in Tangdhar in Kupwara district along the Line of Control on  Monday was part of the team of commandos  that carried out surgical strike in September 2016 as unfounded.

The army came out with this denial after the media carried reports that the soldier was a member of the special forces that had gone across the LoC on the intervening night of September 28 and 29  to conduct the surgical strike in Pakistan occupied Kashmir where the terrorist training infrastructure was   smashed two years ago.

Lance Naik was 30 year old. He belonged to Gurdaspur district of the neighbouring state of Punjab
