Srinagar, September 25:

National Conference’s  spokesperson Junaid Mattu  has resigned from the party  to protest against its decision not to take part in the urban local bodies and panchayat polls  exposing the  fissures within the party over all important  democratic exercise.

Junaid Mattu  broke his silence  on the social media site Twitter almost a month after the party president  and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah  had announced that the party will not take part in the Municipal and Panchayat polls as  the exercise has been linked to the hearing on the Article 35 A.

Mattu in a tweet on  Tuesday said : based on my humble disagreement with the party’s decision to boycott the upcoming ULB and Panchayat Polls, I have just sent my resignation from the party to the JKNC General Secretary.”
“I strongly believe that leaving our grassroots democratic institutions open to misrepresentation would inflict serious harm on the State and also wreak havoc with our social fabric and cultural legacy,” he wrote.

The party has accepted his resignation.

His announcement of the resignation  came on the day party’s working committee is concluding its two-day long session to review the prevailing situation in the State.
